JUDGES: Hans Borgman & Bobbie Sigmund

DAY ONE

Was an overcast cool day, but perfect for running dogs. The majority of this years 12 contenders gave the judges something to look at and a lot to choose from. In the saddle is Bobbie Sigmund and Hans Borgan. Everyone is looking forward to Day 2. This year just after the first brace broke away we got word that the water pump on the grounds was not working and we no longer had running water. I want to give a big thank you to Linda and Pat Casey for providing water for the all the horse, dogs and other items as needed until the water was restored the following day. We all would like to thank Danny Johnson with the State who is one of the caretakers for the Dick Cross Wildlife Management Area who came in and took care of the problem on Saturday.

First Brace was Lancaster's Rolling Rex with Jimmy Crandall and Pinekone Black Rose with Ashby Morgan.

Rose scored first at 7 with all in order. Rex had his first find at 11, and required extra convincing to leave the area, Rose backed Rex with style.. Rose then pointed at 21 were she was found pointing, but only bits of the bird were found from a Hawk kill. At 27 the dogs shared a find dwith all in order. Rex then scored at 34 with Rose backing all was in order. At 41 both dogs were found on point and their handlers each produced their birds with all in order. They scored another divided find at 43 with manners. Both dogs ran a nice race.

Bell shared a find with her bracemate at 14 with all in order, then her handler chose to pick her up at 30. Katie's first find was 7 were she was found buried in thick cover. She scored again at 26 and 30. All of her finds were very stylish and intense. Katie's ground race flowed around the course working both the cover and taking the edges, in a very mature manner. Her style on this course was very smooth and confident for such a young dog. (Hog Hill Katie won this years Futurity in February.)
